Day 6 Diary - Noticing And Not Judging

By Mike Mindel | August 7, 2007

My Seven Niche Markets

Remember I selected 7 niche markets:

Then I extracted my 7 niches:

My Seven Niches

Lets see what Google has to say about affiliate programs for each of these niches.

Rollercoaster Reviews Affiliate

Not much going on here. Some coaster videos, a store, rollercoaster tycoon. No pay per click ads.

No Google trends.

Mentalism Tricks Affiliate

This one’s more interesting. Every url looks like an affiliate program. Paid ads are general affiliate programs not specific to mentalism.

Hardly any search volume for ‘mentalism’ or ‘mentalism tricks’ on Google Trends:

Healthy Snacks

A few affiliate programs. Some pay per click ads around dieting.

A fair amount of traffic on Google Trends:

Some peaks and troughs mainly around health announcements e.g. ‘never understimate the power of healthy snacks’ and ‘Canada’s first totally green fuel station opens in Ottawa’.

Juicing Health

Lots of affiliate programs both in organic and paid search. General affiliate programs also included in paid search.

Google Trends shows some nice consistent traffic for ‘juicing’:

Notice that unexplained spike. Neither ‘juicing health’ nor ‘juicing for health’ show up.

Money Online Games

Many affiliate programs in organic and paid search mainly around affiliate marketing in general. Some around puzzle games.

Big affiliate games review guide.

As far as Google trends:

No entry until late 2005. Then fairly consistent.

Unusual Property

Actually quite a few property companies have affiliate programs. I wonder why that is. I also notice an affiliate program review directory.

Looks like there is also an affiliate badge you can place on your own website:

Excellent idea. Reminds me of the ebay products badge I’ve seen around.

No Google trend data for ‘unusual property’ or even ‘unique property’.

Suspense Novel

Affiliate programs around horror & suspense audio books. Suspense novels. Ebook publishing.

No Google Trends for ’suspense thriller’, ‘psychological thriller’ but ‘write a novel’ shows a curious decline and levelling off.

Ok. That wraps up my day 6 diary.

Thanks, Mike! This is really helpful stuff. My niches have been wayyyy too broad so far, so following along with some other case studies has made wrapping my head around the niche vs. market differences a lot easier. Keep up the great work!

    Mike,
Your spreadsheets indeed have helped me a lot. I wouldn’t know what to do until I see how you put everything in the spreadsheets.

Thank you so much. I appreciate it.
