Tip #6 - Buckle Up - It’s GTrends - the Tool!
By Mike Mindel | August 13, 2007
Do you know who this is?

That’s Mike Stenhouse (from the British Britpack) and Mike Mindel (co-founder of Wordtracker) after 18 hours straight coding on…
…on what?
Well. You’ve seen this

right?
That’s the Wordtracker Free Keyword Suggestion Tool.
But do you know what this is?

Introducing Wordtracker GTrends
This, my friends, is Wordtracker GTrends - the tool.
You can find it at Wordtracker GTrends or in the navigation bar of this blog.
Fed up of not finding any niches? Fed up of running through hundreds of Google pages, affiliate pages, trends?
Well. Not any more.
Wordtracker GTrends is a mashup of the Wordtracker Free Keyword Suggestion Tool & the Thirty Day Challenge GTrends process by Rob Somerville, Ed Dale, Dan Raine, Nicolas Messe.
I hope this helps those Thirty Day Challengers who are still struggling to find that golden niche.
A Quick Tour
Let me quickly show you how to use Wordtracker GTrends.
Click on the blue link above and you’ll see this

That’s the start page.
Now enter in a niche keyword e.g. novel and click ‘Hit Me’ and you’ll see this page

Notice there are two columns, one on the left marked ‘Thesaurus’ and one on the right marked ‘Wordtracker Keywords’.
Here’s a closer look at the Thesaurus

Do you see all the related keywords e.g. fiction, book, novelette, penny dreadful?
If you’re stuck in a niche without many searches then this will help you go down a different route.
It will help you go lateral.
(Note: the main Wordtracker tool has a much more powerful lateral tool).
But this is a good start.
Romance
Let’s click on ‘romance’

Did you see the second column change as if by magic?

You can click on a thesaurus term on the left and it will update the Wordtracker keyword results on the right without refreshing the page. (mmmm…. ajax).
Lets Drill Down
Click on ’sailor moon romance’ (an Anime cartoon)

See how it drills down and shows just those keyword searches with ’sailor moon romance’ in them…

The Fun Part
Ok. Now here’s the fun part.
Click on one of those little bar graphs on the right

Your screen darkens and then you see

It’s GTrends!
Google Competition
Firstly there’s a Google Competition comparison graph

This one has a cross which means it’s no good for the Thirty Day Challenge.
The keyword ’sailor moon romance’ has 35,500 competing web pages in Google for the exact match search.
We’re looking for 30,000 and under so this is no good.
GTrends Searches / Day
The second comparison graph

compares the two bars in the GTrends technique that Ed showed you earlier in the training.
GTrends works out how many searches per day Google Trends estimates you will receive for the exact match keyword ’sailor moon romance’.
GTrends compares ’sailor moon romance’ against ‘male yeast infection’ and works out the number of searches per day. No more faffing round with your ruler and bar graphs.
In this case there’s only 40 and we want 80-100+
Both Together Now
So when we put them both together

you have a pretty clear idea of whether this niche is a go or not.
In this ’sailor moon romance’ example, there is a cross against both graphs. So it’s a no.
Now click on close or hit the Escape key on your keyboard

and we’re back to the main keyword results.

Your Middle Click is Your Friend
If your mouse has a middle click then select the keywords you are interested in and middle click on each of the graphs.

and see how they line up one after the other…

Click On Each Tab
Here’s one for ’sailor moon romance fiction’

It’s got one tick and one cross.
That means that it has the recommended number of competing web pages (under 30,000): 1,570.
But it only has about 5 searches per day according to Google Trends.
So it’s a no.
Lets See If We Can Find a Niche
Here’s one thats really close

Look at that. 28,500 competing web pages & around 50 searches a day.
That could be a goer.
A Golden Niche
But in the next tab I found a contender!

The keyword ’sailor moon games’ passes the first (and hardest) round of checks.
‘Sailor moon games’ has 26,500 competing web pages and around 120 searches a day.
Do The Research
As Caro pointed out in this thread, now you’ve found a contender
YOU MUST OBSERVE WHAT IS GOING ON IN THAT NICHE
Meaning - it’s not enough to get excited about your numbers.
What you also MUST do is to have observed EACH & EVERY niche market you are looking at.
So go and do the rest of your research. You see the research tab at the bottom of GTrends
You can click on each of these links and a tab will open up for each in your browser.
Let’s click on the affiliate link for ’sailor moon games’

and we’re off.
This way you can easily investigate the competition, affiliates & any other useful trend information as described to you in your earlier Thirty Day Challenge training.
Feedback
Please leave your feedback in the comments below please so I can improve the tool.
Thanks.

I…. love…. you…. guys….
Seriously, this stupendously awesome!
The only thing I could possibly suggest is that… um… I don’t actually have a suggestion right now.
Beautiful job guys!
If I can think of any suggestions, I’ll come back!
-Garrett
August 13th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
Ok… so it didn’t take me long. Just one, simple, suggestion.
If there were a way to choose a different base word (other than MYI), I would be in utter bliss.
Even if you can’t do that, this is incredible. Brilliant! (as Ed would say)
-Garrett
PS: And I hope, hope, hope, hope, that this will be available after 30DC?
August 13th, 2007 at 11:06 pm
Just keep up the suggestions and I’ll roll em out during the week.
Mike
August 13th, 2007 at 11:07 pm
This has moved me from lurker to # 1 FAN so fast that my face has ended up somewhere behind my head (no, not THERE, although my colleagues believe that’s where it usually is).
FABULOUS, thank you a million times over!
August 13th, 2007 at 11:14 pm
Hi Mike and Mike this is great but are you compensating for the upward trend of MYI in your daily calcs for searches in Gtrends?
If you are how are you doing this?
Are you guestimating or compensating.
Regards,
Paul
August 13th, 2007 at 11:15 pm
Holy Crap!
You guys are unbelievable. . .
Holy Crap!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. . .Mike and Mike!
Sean
August 13th, 2007 at 11:18 pm
No. Not compensating yet. I will do but I’m just too tired after this marathon session.
I’m going to take all the feedback and do another round in the middle of the week.
As Ed says use bad numbers. So the bigger the spike in ‘male yeast infection’ the more reliable the green bar when it has a tick.
August 13th, 2007 at 11:21 pm
You are a genius! This tool has allowed me to zero in on a few profitable niches and has slashed the amount of time spent on researching a niche significantly. Thank you for sharing this awesome tool with us.

[…] Go here now and view the full detail […]
August 13th, 2007 at 11:34 pm
My comment was the same as Garrets, let is put in alternatives to MYI - I have one that’s pretty close. Or you could get a pool of them and round robin so that you aren’t slamming one phrase.
(However, every term I tested against has the same up-tick… Hey, maybe this Internet thing is finally getting popular or something?)
August 13th, 2007 at 11:38 pm
Absolutely AWESOME!
It took me a few minutes to ‘translate’ the words “cross” and “tick” to my American “ex” and “check” so I could figure out what I was reading, but I’m over it!
Keep up the amazing work, Mike — you are a gem.
Peace,
JudyO
August 13th, 2007 at 11:43 pm
Awesome - Mike I think if you type “everyone’s best friend” into Google, it would come up with your name.

I think I found a bug.
If you search enough to get to the Captcha requirement - after that when you get back and click on the bar chart, the screen gets dark and then the pop-up just says “Goodbye!”
Let me try again - nope, it didn’t even wait for the Captcha… I did about 6 bar chart pop-ups to get to the “Goodbye!” response.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:00 am
This is fantastic! Only thing is, I’m not getting the Thesaurus listing. Just a heading, no terms. What am I missing?
August 14th, 2007 at 12:01 am
The Goodbye thing is to prevent robots from hacking the scripts.
You get a session of about three minutes after you’ve done a search & clicked on niches etc.
Just do another search it will reset the session.
I’ll take another look tomorrow.
Mike
August 14th, 2007 at 12:09 am
Hi Mike and Mike I should imagine you are cream crackered (tired):o) after that marathon session.
You do not need to compensate. You can use MYI for as long as you want as the base line it is really quite simple.
Choose the vertical midpoint section between 2006 and 2007 on the MYI chart which is about January as the base or datum line and take the height to be for around 500 searches give or take a few.
Then all you have to do to keep this base for as long as you want is to take the overall height of the latest MYI measurement and see how may times MYIs base height goes into it.
example say the base height we use is 40 pixels at the January point.
Then just measure the latest height say it is 90pixels. to keep your base all you have to do is divide the overall MYI height by the base e.g.
90 / 40.
We now have our factor for determining the correct daily figures for gtrend daily searches.
Example if the overall height is 90 pixels and it = traffic of say 2000 according to G then by our base figure to come up with the true length of the english language blue bar or traffic we just divide 2000 (actual length) by (90px overall height of MYI divided by our base height of 40px).
This gives us 2000 divided by 2.25 (90/40=2.25)
Therefore our total searches are the actual English language blue line length of 2000/2.25=800
(the real value of the bar is 2000 in this instance but after compensating for MYI movement to us it is only 800 in this example)
This formula can be used no matter how often MYI is searched because our base line has been and gone so can never be changed unless G drop the graph completely.
So No need to worry about losing our Base or Datum as it actually is.
Just thought that might help seeing as everyone is so worried about losing something that we do not have to worry over.
)
By the way get some rest
)
All the best,
Paul.
PS or alternatively ask Big G to place scaling figures on both the X and Y axis of their charts
)
Then we would not have all this hassle?
Still it is fun working it all out and it’s really great having all you guys and gals on our side:o)
August 14th, 2007 at 12:22 am
One thing I would like to see is the ability to see the GTrends data for non Wordtracker Keywords.
For example if I enter ‘widgets’ as my starting word and as i’m scanning through the Wordtracker suggestions and see ‘widget factory’ but also want to see GTrends data for ‘widget factories’ (which for some reason isn’t on the Wordtracker list), there is no way of doing this is there?
August 14th, 2007 at 12:28 am
More tears of joy here - this is awesome! Thank you, thank you!!
Daisy
August 14th, 2007 at 12:32 am
hey guys this is awesome! If only I had this over the weekend, I would have some hair left on my head! Thank you so much for this! You are geniuses!
August 14th, 2007 at 12:38 am
Wow, what an amazing tool It wiped out one of my niches, but i found another one very quickly , what a tool
August 14th, 2007 at 12:45 am
WOW is all I can say.
AND
THANKYOU SO MUCH!
George
PS Paul’s comment 17 has what I figured graphically but in numbers.
PPS so far I don’t get anything in the Thesaurus either.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:54 am
Brill, well done guys and thanks.
)
I get the Goodbye periodically, but it goes away if I’m persistent (and I wouldn’t be here if I weren’t persistent.
Sit vis nobiscum.
(May the Force be With You).
Dave.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:55 am
you are a freakin genius! GOLD!!
August 14th, 2007 at 12:55 am
Ohhh thank you guys… but DAMNIT i spent the last hours coding exactly the same in python…..
August 14th, 2007 at 1:20 am
Hi Mike x Mike,
Outstanding! Thanks for posting this and for making it accessible to the 30 DC crew. I’d write more, but I have to be off, running my niches through the paces with this new tool.
Fantabulous.

August 14th, 2007 at 1:25 am
I was thinking of doing the same thing myself. you beat me to it!
August 14th, 2007 at 1:28 am
WOW…so cool thanks Mike & Mike,
it’s awesome
August 14th, 2007 at 1:29 am
thats a awesome tool, big thx
anyway a slider to have different proportions would be good,
August 14th, 2007 at 1:42 am
you ‘2 Mikes’ are unbelievable, you are saving me hours and hours. I would pay for this tool and hope to discover the tools you offer that extend our capabilities after 30daychallenge is completed!
this is over the top, adds well to Dale’s excellent teaching adventures thank you
August 14th, 2007 at 1:42 am
Can you explain your slider idea please oil. Thx.
August 14th, 2007 at 1:45 am
Oh. I forgot to mention.
If you’re seeing ‘Goodbye’ then it means your session timed out.
Just do another search and it’ll be ok again.
I’ve had to put this in to prevent robots from scripting and spidering the tool.
And they will try!
-Mike
August 14th, 2007 at 1:53 am
This tool is just great but on some searches what is happening is when I click on the graph there is no result in the popup and it says ‘Goodbye’
August 14th, 2007 at 1:56 am
Where has this been for all of my life?!! You’re being able to whip something like this up is completely beyond, and so appreciated!
Richard
August 14th, 2007 at 1:59 am
Guys, I am blown away, you are awesome!
I’ll fall back to quoting a TISM lyric that sums you guys up:
“F**king rock mate, f**king rock!”
August 14th, 2007 at 2:01 am
awesome tool! thanks!
August 14th, 2007 at 2:11 am
[…] The thing that made it a lot easier the second time around was tool Mike Mindel and Mike Stenhouse that combines a number of the 30 Day Challenge activities into one place. It made it a lot easier to go through groups of keywords until I found one that matched the criteria (or was close). […]
August 14th, 2007 at 2:14 am
Ok. I’ve doubled the session timeout to 6 minutes so you should see less of these ‘Goodbye’ timeouts.
Going to sleep now. zzzz.
-Mike
August 14th, 2007 at 2:25 am
Thank you so much from someone with less tech ability than some of the other challengers. It makes me feel that I will be able to make sense of some of this. I hope you are feeling the love, guys!
August 14th, 2007 at 2:26 am
Sick Sick Sick!!!
Mike I really don’t know how you pulled this off all the while answering my emails.
You guys rock!
Thank you Mike and Mike.
PS - Please forgive all the exclamation marks!
August 14th, 2007 at 2:26 am
Wait till all the “Big Name Guru’s” see this. It blows all the old market research tricks out of the water. Everything just became obsolete.
I can’t believe you guys are so kind to share this freely.
God bless you and rest well

Mike,
I think the number of times I’m thanking you getting obscene.
This is right on time man.
*But I do have one question; the thesaurus has had nothing in it for any of my searches.
Any ideas?*

August 14th, 2007 at 5:37 am
Very, very nice
Just one small thing . . .
When I click on the graph and the “ghost” page opens, I have no way to close it unless I hit the back button on my browser.
Probably because I have so many tool bars, and it’s no big deal to work around.
Sorry Mike but . . .
Here’s another thanks

Mike & Mike… You’ll Simply Rock. This is Absolutely Awesome Tool. Keep up the GREAT work.

Keep up the great and good work!

YOU BLOWN MY MIND! THIS TOOL ROCKS !
August 14th, 2007 at 10:23 am
Awesome stuff guys… really cool.
Many thanks for your hard work and sacrifice.
Couple things I found:
Searching on the phrase:
obsessive compulsive disorder treatment
WT changes the order of the phrase in the first listing to:
treatment obsessive compulsive disorder
So, then the phrase search competition number is different from what I had researched manually on Google using the first ordering.
Second, your tool automatically puts the inverted commas around, to do a phrase search match, in GTreands, but in Rob’s orig video he used broad match initially, and then a phrase match.
In my experience (Using ezinearticles.com) its easy enough to get a top 5 ranking on broad match using a lower competition term (
August 14th, 2007 at 10:28 am
Thank you both seems so tame - there is a phrase, ‘what goes around comes around!’ You two deserve the best - as does the whole 30DC crew.
August 14th, 2007 at 10:28 am
Continued from previous post….
…(less than 10,000 phrase search - for Ezinearticles), so it seems possible that people could be discarding phrases that have OK traffic on broad search, and they could still get a decent ranking on broad search using (even using EA or Squidoo, let alone Ed’s new Ninja Web 2.0 property strategies)?
Is it too much to ask for a toggle swtich between broad and phrase match?
Many thanks
Peter Cutforth

With the recent “kick” in MYI search volume, Mike could I ask you to comment on my posts towards the end of this thread:
www.thirtydaychallenge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2054
My suggestion is that many, if not most, higher traffic phrases are experiencing a recent upward lift in GT, and that maybe it’s nothing to do with 30DC activity at all?
Could you give us your comments on graphs in my post?
Thanks again
Peter Cutforth
August 14th, 2007 at 10:32 am
Hey Mike this is a great tool. Just reposting my suggestion, here from the forum, to add a web 2.0 scan to the tool. Just have it scan the top 10 search results for the web 2.0 properties indicated in day 10 so that more people will be able to do this step. Many people don’t understand it, so if the tool can do it for them, it will help them out.
August 14th, 2007 at 10:46 am
Well… I’m having a little trouble with this. You see, it seems this article has “Sailor Moon” in it several times, and I can’t seem to get that show out of my mind long enough to try out the… whatever it is you’re writing about that isn’t Sailor Moon…
OK, seriously, this is a great tool, and MUCH appreciated. Thanks so much for giving the community such a helpful compilation!
August 14th, 2007 at 10:49 am
WISHLIST
(Because this is so beautiful I want to keep it forever)
1. I want to be able to add it to the search engines on my toolbar, please!
2. If when you drill down, you left click by accident, then the results overlay the current screen instead of opening up in a new tab. That’s great but using the back button to get out of it clears the Thesaurus etc. Could you please create a way to close that field instead of having to delete all the info on the page behind, and can you fix a way to scroll it down, because viewed that way, the last link to google disappears off the bottom of the screen.
I think then it would be completely idiot-proof.
Best wishes,
The Idiot.
:)

[…] Measurement effect: do we need to change the standard? Since last week, more than ten thousands 30-day challengers are using the GTrend ratio tool to uncover starving niches. This large number of searches has skewed the trend curve for “male yeast infection” that is used as a measurement standard as representing 500 unique visitors per days.It came to my attention today that the GTrend number for a number of off-beat niches has severely dropped. For example, a phrase that had a GTrend number of 500 last week has only 325 today. I will not write this phrase here, in order to be able to use it again in the future to calibrate my own measurements.I propose to change regularly the measurement standard to avoid such effects. A phrase that has a GTrend number of about 500 should be kept secret to calibrate all the standards. The calibration phrase should not be a likely market niche to avoid it fluctuates as more challengers research the markets. A new standard should be announced every time the calibration standard changes significantly. For example, a possible replacement phrase for the standard is “semiconductor industry” (without quotes) that has also a GTrend number of about 500 (according to my calibrating phrase). […]

What a time saver! Thank you for this great tool.
I would like to suggest to change regularly the standard for the GTrend ratio as it is not a reliable standard anymore due to the large number of searches by the TDC participants. See also my blog.

Hi M & M ,
The tool is just great and thanks for it.
Surely you can improve it as we go but concept is great.
Thanks for it!!

Hey Mike
Un—beeee—lievable! Incredible tool. I am now getting it.
Thanks!

I feel like I have a visitors ticket to the Super Heroes of the Internet Universe conference. For you, its a great mind challenge done by great minds. For us, IM newbies, this is an incredible opportunity. Thank you so much for your generosity. KT

You Are Awesome Mike! Thank you for doing this. This will make catching up so much easier for me since I started a week late.
August 14th, 2007 at 3:42 pm
TECH HINT: on a PC, if ESC does not close the ‘ghost’ window, hit F5 to refresh.
Tech comment: in order to get the “ghost” page to disappear, hitting ESC only works for me if I don’t click on any of the research links. Despite the fact that those open up in a new tab, when I return to the GTrends tab, ESC does nothing. F5/refresh does seem to work, however.
Thanks once again for an utterly amazing tool, Mx2
Peace,
JudyO

Wow. That’s using your nalgas (Spanish speakers?).
What can I say. You guys hit it out of the park.
Ond question. Why is it that I don’t get any Thesaurus results? For all my key word searches, that side of the page remains blank under the heading Thesaurus.
With gratitude,
Olivia

This is a great tool. Thank you.
Just because I’m real lazy the suggestion I have is to place a “+” or “-” next to the google trend results icon. A “+” indicates the keyword meets the 30-day challenge niche criteria of Competition 100. A “-” indicates it doesn’t. This would allow a quick one-stop view of all the keywords without having to open the google trends window for each keyword.
Thanks again for providing this wonderful tool and making life easier for us all.

You guys are my HEROES!!!!!
August 14th, 2007 at 5:51 pm
How do I install this tool?
August 14th, 2007 at 6:01 pm
What a Fantastic Tool!! Thank you so much for your time and effort that went into building it!!!
August 14th, 2007 at 6:25 pm
From the mind of the ‘Dream Team’.
How sweeeeet it is!
This is the most useful tool I have seen in a long
time. Already found another niche - better than the
previous ones. Thanks a million ‘M&Ms’
August 14th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
Love the tool! Thanks guys.
Is there any way to display all Google Trends info on each of the keywords that come up at the same time?
That would be major cool and cut down on clicking! Thanks again.
August 14th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Hi,
It is theoretically possible. But I’m not going to do it for the free tool.
Mainly because
a) It’s a lot more work
b) It would require 100 requests to Google at once and they may not like that. At the moment it’s one request at a time.
So I’m playing it safe and making it useful for everyone.

August 14th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
Mike,
I can’t get the Thesaurus to display any alternative words after entering my terms in the search field. Is this tool a plug-in or add on to Firefox? Is there any installation procedure? Thanks.
Seb
August 15th, 2007 at 12:06 am
Awesome job guys even though one of my niche terms now looks a no goer. But I am looking forward to putting all to the test with this amazing tool! Should make things a breeze! Many, many thanks!

Wow!
I don’t know what else to say. This is way, way way above average and way, way, way beyond the call of duty.
I am continually stunned by the level and quality of all the participants and mentors in this 30DC. However, this is just a stellar effort guys.
If I have any suggestions after I come out of shock I’ll be certain to let you know.
Thank you so very much.

I really want to appreciate your effort Mike. You are my super star.
August 15th, 2007 at 10:31 am
What a great tool! Thanks, Mike.
A couple of very minor tech comments…1) when a session expires in the ghost page, the link to refresh it opens a new search inside the ghost page instead of closing it and going back to the main page. 2) The thesaurus doesn’t work when terms are capitalized.
I’m not complaining, mind you. These were just two little things I happened to notice while using the cool GTrends tool for the past hour.
August 15th, 2007 at 11:31 am
Hi I think the Google part has disappeared or is this just happening to me has anyone else noticed?
August 15th, 2007 at 12:04 pm
Seems ok to me. Just try refreshing.
August 15th, 2007 at 12:04 pm
Thanks for all the comments.
I’ll scoop them all up, sift through them and get the fixes out to GTrends in the next 2-3 days.

BRILLIANT! I tried it and, within 5 minutes of messing around, I found an uber sexy niche for me to exploit.
Thanks!

I’ve found about 30 keywords that pass the Thirty Day Challenge filters using my own tool. Nice.
August 15th, 2007 at 6:49 pm
So many people have already thanked you and even though 100 thanks have already been given I couldn’t pass by without giving you all one big hug and shake your hands and Thank You from the bottom of my heart.
I have been a paid member of Wordtracker for quite awhile now. Sydney Johnston said that I should buy a membership, so I did.
With all of the tools you have given for free, I feel blessed that I have helped pay for a little of that time energy and effort.
Thanks so much,
Kristin

August 19th, 2007 at 12:39 am
Hi Mike and Mike:
looking for a niche I found that the results using Gtrends on a correctly spelled word ending in “pes” gave me a no, whereas the same word spelled incorrectly with the ending “pies” (sounds the same), gave a good “golden” result. Am I right in supposing that the “golden” misspelling is OK to try to develop as a niche?
Bill
P.S. I put this question on the Forum also.
August 19th, 2007 at 4:49 pm
Bill here again (sorry, I should’ve put my TDC name on my previous post), with what is probably another dumb question. Due to the Gtrends tool I’m now in the quandry of having turned up a dozen “golden” (i.e. over 100 searches and less than thirty thou. competitors) phrases, of which now I must select two only. My question: is it best to go for those with the most searches although they don’t have the lowest competition figure, or those with the least competition although they don’t have the most searches?
Many thanks to you all.

Some days are the turning points in one’s career. I’ll never forget the moment I laid my eyes on this and then glued myself to the computer for the next 5 hours, finding niches left and right. I can never thank you enough. The internet will never be the same for us thirty day challengers.

August 25th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
Hi Mike,
Word Tracker Trends works, untilit comes to results overlay page. It is just a partial page and does not give me the full page results. (I do not see Google Competition results at the top and I do not see the Results at the bottom.) The page is stationary and will not let me arrow the page up or down. I checked FAQ, but do not find.
Do I just download GTrends again? If so, do I uninstall current GTrends or will it download over the one presently installed?
I can’t thank you enough for all your help in providing us with these tools and all the summaries, etc., etc.
Thanks,
Co

You don’t need to install it. It’s a web application which means it just works from a web page.
I would suggest increasing your screen resolution to at least 1024 x 768.

Mike Stenhouse and you Mike Mindel deserve a standing ovation for the work y’all (that’s Texan)did in developing this WT/GTrend tool.

I use Cooliris to help speed things along.

Very cool. I am just doing the 30DC now but I am a bit confused over the competitive analysis. In one of the videos (Dan Raine?) competitive analysis is demonstrated using google just like you are, except, they go beyond it by setting number of results per page to 100 and then going to page 10, and seeing that the real unique pages are 787, not 35,500. Am I missing something here?
Thanks!

Dear Mike - we are new to Ed’s 30DC and have just come across your Wordtracker Gtrends tool. we have tried to use it (following the link on your email which notified us of the Gtrends tool) but we do not get any words showing in the Thesaurus column.
can you please advise what we should (or should not) be doing.
kind regards - Lola

Morning Ed,
That’s a fantastic tool. You did mention it earlier in the 30DC but I could never get it to work properly - the Thesaurus side never came up. I actually contacted Mike Mindel directly to find out what I was doing wrong. Can’t wait to start searching again…
Many thanks yet again.

Hiya, you’ve got a lot of comments, i’ll cross my fingers here..!t
i see now the second bar now reads “actual visitors from #1 in google/day.” this number seems really low? for instance, quite often there will be 1,000 - 2,000 people searching for a term (according to the first screen), and then only ~5 a day in this second bar/ screen.
can the conversions really be that low? where do the other 995 go, i wonder?
i hope you can lead me towards a bit more information about this figure, because besides the concern about numbers, it’s a great tool.
