Freak Out, Come Back, Join Up
By Mike Mindel | July 31, 2007
Some of you may be wondering why you need to get into groups. Can’t you just do it all yourself?
The simple answer is - yes - of course you can. But you’re not going to be as effective.
When it comes to social apps, friends are king. Say you’ve put up a blog post and you want to tell like… everyone. Well. Why not ask your group to promote you first? Then you can promote their posts and well… you get the picture. Everybody wins.
Join these social resources at a minimum:
- Join the groups Buzz Marketing & The Thirty Day Challenge at a minimum.
- Ideally create/join your own private group so you can all support each other throughout the challenge.
- Add photos, videos, discussion boards.
Look for the Team Talk section and join a group!
Bloglines
This is an RSS reader. RSS stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’. It’s a common format which allows you to put all the content you want to keep an eye on in one place. So if you like this blog, that podcast, those images - you just group altogether under Bloglines. It’ll keep track of them all for you.
To setup Bloglines as the default RSS reader for Firefox:
- In Firefox, go to menu items Tools->Options->Feeds
- Click on “Subscribe to the feed using…”
- Choose Bloglines
- Click OK
What are you doing? What are your friends doing? Lets everyone know what you’re up to.
If you really want more convincing then go make a cup of Java and watch Ed’s excellent video.
Remember Timothy Leary’s: turn on, tune in, drop out? Well… forget that. Watch the video then freak out, come back and join up.
