Tip #14 – Save Your Tumblr Content!

By Mike Mindel | August 18, 2007

In light of Tumblr’s rather aggressive mass nuking of Tumblr blogs, some of you may be distraught at losing all your hard work.

Apart from the fact you should be making backups of your copy as you go (:-), here’s a quick tip on how to reclaim your content.

Head on over to Google and do a search for your keyword (umbrella phrase)

locate your result

Now click on the Cached link

and voila

there’s your page!

Now I suggest highlighting all the text

right click

and send to Google Notepad.

So your content is saved.

Hopefully the Tumblr guys will figure out that this activity is against their best interest soon.

-Mike

p.s. Not that I needed it anyway. I write my content in Google Docs first and copied it into tumblr! ;)

Good stuff. Most people should have it in Google Notebook and Google docs.

:( my only problem is not having been listed. anyway, all the contents were completely written by me, so I’ll just have to find enought time to write them down again! (maybe, even better!)

When I type my phrase in Google I don’t get the ‘cached’ option. So probably no hope for my article.

    Mike
that is the best tip in the whole world!

I am buying you a coffee via PayPal!

I’ve still lost all the content I made today as it hadn’t been re-indexed/cached yet, but….

    Thanks SO much anyway.

My Lord you are good! Just when I think I know something. Good reference for the future. I also do my blogs in Google docs first.

Or you can use this method described here to get the content back: http://www.thirtydaychallenge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2750

If none of the other options mentioned work, one other thing to try is to search for the name of your blog on technorati.com — that was what finally worked for me.
