Tip #17 - Decent List of Free Content Platforms
By Mike Mindel | August 20, 2007
This post does what it says on the tin. This is a half decent list of user generated content sites to spread your quality content love around the globe.
This collection is from my own research. I am not going to personally vouch for these services. But I also haven’t lazily posted a huge list with some good services and some bad ones amongst them.
What I can say is that to the best of my knowledge all of the following sites should be suitable for the challenge and offer a free content service for text (blog, wiki, articles etc) and video.
I’ve purposefully excluded bookmarking sites as you shouldn’t be posting any affiliate links there or you’ll get banned. I’ve also removed any services e.g. Yahoo pages (pages.yahoo.com) which expressly forbid commercial activities or place conditions on commercial activities.
I can see about 60 decent services out there. Not the 100’s we all thought.
But it’s a good start…

Hi Mike, this is a great list of possible sites to post on to replace tumblr.
Since my original posts are still up on google search results, should I put brand new content on the new blog?
If I put the same articles up, will it be duplicate?
Will it someday be not indexed, so that I can use the articles again?
Thanks, I hope I made sense!

I think you can go into webmaster tools and remove the old listings from Google first.

Hi Mike, I’m still trying to get rid of my tumblr pages. They are just splashed all over the place with tumblr itself, digg, etc. At the webmaster tools, it says to put this in my server root, after I’ve tested it with google.
User-agent: *
Disallow: /
Problem is, how do I get to the server root if I can’t get into tumblr?
Or am I going about this all wrong.
Thanks

[…] There are 25 other places to go for content and we’ve moved on from Tumblrgate. But in the calmness of what has happened people have been showing me (Ed) examples of what was being put on Tumblr. It was horrific. We’re not just talking about bad content or people that didn’t write their content well. No, we’re talking about the other end of the spectrum. We’re talking about the number of real spammers who are following along with the Thirty Day Challenge. […]

[…] With this in mind, Ed went on to discuss the decision to fish or cut bait. If one keyword is not getting traffic and the other one is, then dump the one that isn’t getting traffic and move on. Select a niche keyword in GTrends, write an article, select one of 25 different content providers, then put up a piece of content. Ideally you want a new content provider each day. Don’t focus on just one. One or two (maybe three) niche keyword targeted posts per content platform is fine. […]
