Tip #5 - Is Sex Offensive?

By Mike Mindel | August 11, 2007

Some of you prefer not to see what the WHOLE of the world is searching for.

Borrowing from the immortal words of Cartman from South Park - that tool has warped my fragile little mind.

Anyhoo…

I’ve added in an ‘adult filter’ to the Wordtracker free keyword tool like this

which is nice.

It’s defaults to ‘remove offensive’ which means all the really mucky stuff is shielded from you. But some of the more dubious terms will get through.

Let’s All Think About Sex

Ha. I’ve always wanted to write that.

But ’sex’ is a good keyword to demonstrate the adult filter. ‘Sex’ by itself is not offensive. So when you query ’sex’ with the adult filter set to ‘remove offensive’ then you get this

Which is great when you are researching ’sex education’ and don’t want all the smut.

The other two options are ‘off’ and ‘adult only’.

If you search for ’sex’ with either of these two options then you only have yourself to blame.

When you turn the filter off then this allows everything through - including all the filth. But you asked for it, so you got it.

Finally we have ‘adult only’ for those researching adult themes or even vaguely adult themes like lingerie - who don’t want to lose keywords.

We figured that we should give you the power to determine your own adult filter comfort level and set a default that would appeal to most.

If in doubt - keep it at ‘remove offensive’ ok?

-Mike

Very good. It is actually very helpful when the keywords you are looking for are definitely not adult in nature (ie: Dora the Explorer!).

Nothing made me cringe so much as that video when Ed searched for ‘dora the explorer’ and all the porn came up.

    Gaah.

    Resolved now.
